The Wehrmacht made heavy use of the Panzer 38(t) during WWII, both as atank and as the basis for a range of different AFV variants. Ironically,the Panzer 38(t) wasn’t even a German design, but rather a Czech one.This is indicated by the suffix ‘(t)’ that represented tschechisch, theGerman word for Czech. Originally labeled the CKD LT vz. 38 by Czechoslovakia, Germany took over the factory when it annexedCzechoslovakia, and production continued until 1942. More than 1,400Pz.38(t)/Sd.Kfz.140 tanks were manufactured, though the chassiscontinued to roll off the factory floor for Marder III and Jagdpanzer 38 vehicles among others till 1944.
