• Realistic replica of theCap San Diego museum ship found in Hamburg harbour, based on original documents from the Cap San Diego Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (www.capsandiego.de)
• In 1962, ships of the Cap San class ushered in the era of high-speed cargo ships with a large refrigerating hold and facilities for 12 passengers. With their slim hull and pronounced counter stern, they are more like elegant yachts than cargo ships, hence their nickname "the white swans of the south Atlantic". From 1980 onwards, container ships became ever more popular as a means of transport and the end of the general cargo ship was in sight. Therefore, the Cap San Diego was sold to Spain in 1981.
• Saved from the flame cutter, the Cap San Diego returned to Hamburg at the end of 1986, where it was fully restored to a seaworthy state. Since then it has been docked by the Überseebrücke bridge in Hamburg and people can go on board for what is a highly recommended visit.
