Information - ARTR (Almost Ready To Run)
- The USS Nimitz (CVN-68) is the first aircraft carrier of the United States Navy Nimitz class that bears its name. It was named for Chester W. Nimitz, the supreme commander of the Pacific Fleet in the Second World War.
- The ship was built by the Newport News Shipbuilding Company in Newport News, Virginia. The keel of the USS Nimitz was laid on 22 June 1968; on 3 May 1975, US President Gerald Ford put the ship into service at the Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia.
