WP TURBO RAVEN,Spannweite ca. Graupner 6284 Wayne Handley, the American aerobatic and demonstration pilot, hit on the idea of designing and building an aerobatic machine to be powered by a 750 BHP Pratt & Whitney turbo-prop engine, as installed in the Swiss Pilatus PC 7 and Turbo Porter. The wings of the new machine were adopted from the GILES G 200, with suitable structural reinforcements, while the fuselage and tail surfaces were completely re-designed.
The fuselage, wings and tail surfaces were built using GRP / carbon fibre sandwich techniques, and the machine was test-flown in March 1998.
The aircraft´s enormous engine power of 750 BHP makes it possible to carry out short take-offs of around 40 m, followed by an indefinite vertical climb. Maximum airspeed at full engine power is 481 km/hr, and the roll rate is a staggering 450° per second! The maximum climb rate is achieved at a speed of 185 km/hr and an angle of 70°, producing a climb rate of 1900 m/minute. In 1999 this machine set a new world record of 91 seconds for climb to 3000 m height from a standing start. The turbo-prop´s power of 750 BHP combined with a take-off weight of 860 kg equates to a power : weight ratio of virtually 1 : 1, a figure only exceeded by jet aircraft. The TURBO RAVEN is employed for aerobatics and exotic demonstration flying. Our model is drawn to a scale of 1 : 3, and with a wingspan of 2.42 m it is still very easy to handle. The TURBO RAVEN is specially designed for the SPT5 turbo-prop engine, and its static design takes this into account. The moment arms have been modified slightly in favour of balanced flying characteristics and good aerobatic capability. The fuselage and fin are of GRP / CFRP sandwich construction, and the fuselage features factory-fitted undercarriage support bulkheads and rudder post. The wing and tail panels are of conventional balsa-skinned foam construction, and incorporate support ribs and GRP / CFRP reinforcements. The ailerons are integrally hinged using the elasto-flap method, and servo-lock mounts are factory-fitted. Canopy frame, wheel spats, undercarriage unit and spinner are also supplied as GRP / CFRP reinforced parts. The kit includes all small items required to complete the basic model / finished model (depending on version), with the exception of the power and RC system components.
The model kit is available in two variants:
ARF version.
All GRP parts pigmented or painted red, wing and tail panels film-covered in red.
Basic airframe version.
All GRP parts pigmented white, ready-made wing and tail panels.
However, both versions of the kit include all accessories and small items required to complete the basic airframe or finished model (depending on version), with the exception of the power and RC system components. The model is available now for turbo-prop power. Theversion for petrol engine is in preparation.

Comprehensive building instructions in German, English and French. All GRP / epoxy components supplied in red or white pigmented finish (according to version): fuselage, fin, cowl, spinner, wheel spats and canopy frame. Fuselage and fin sandwich-reinforced. Hybrid GRP / CFRP main undercarriage unit and tailskid. Reinforced balsa-skinned styrofoam sandwich wing and tailplane panels (ARF version: factory-covered in red film), all linkage components including fueltank fittings, felt clunk pick-up and all parts required to complete the basic model.
