WP STANDARD LIBELLE Graupner 4550 The Standard-Libelle was built by the Glasfluegel company in Schlattstall, Wuerttemberg, under the direction of Ing. Eugen Haenle. At the Standard-Libelles first appearance it gained 3rd place at the German Championships with its pilot Neubert. At the same time the Swedish pilot Per-Axel Person took 2nd place in the Standard Class at the World Gliding Championships in Poland. The Standard-Libelle was one of the first sailplanes to be built using the glass fibre / plastic method. The machines outstanding features are its excellent performance and handling, together with good-natured stalling characteristics. When we designed the model we gave high priority to harmless, good-natured flying characteristics. The ready-made white pigmented epoxy fuselage features accurately pre-cut holes for the wing joiner system. The rudder post, retract unit bulkheads and servo plates are factory-installed, as are the rudder hinge bearings. The hinge tubes for the wheel well doors are already bonded in place in the fuselage, i.e. to hinge the wheel doors all you have to do is cut out the doors and insert the pivot pins. The rudder and canopy frame, like the fuselage, are moulded in white pigmented epoxy. The wing and tailplane panels are supplied in the pack finished and covered, with the joiner sleeves already in place. The airbrakes are factory-fitted in the wing panels, and finish flush with the top surface of the wing. The canopy is pre-trimmed for an accurate fit on the fuselage.
