ARTR (Almost Ready To Run)
Scale model of the light cruiser of 1909 operated by the German Imperial Navy.
The S.M.S. Emden gained worldwide renown due to the chivalrous behaviour of frigate captain Karl von Müller During her final voyage in 1914, which took her across the Pacific and Indian Oceans, the Emdens skilful tacticsallowed her to escape repeatedly from a large number of enemy ships.
The end came on 9.11.1914 when the Emden came up against
H.M.A.S. Sydney of the Australian Navy; this ship had superior armament, and eventually destroyed the Emden after a hard battle.
The Emdens armament was primarily intended to counter uprisings in Germanys colonies of the time, and for thisreason consisted of just ten 10.5 cm quick-fire cannon, eight light 5.2 cm cannon and two 45 cm torpedo tubes.
The Emdens sister ship was the S.M.S. Dresden, from which she differed primarily in her steam turbine power system: the Emden was fitted with two vertical three-cylinder triple-expansion steam engines, and was therefore one knot slower.
As Order No. 2010 the model is available in the attractivetropical colour scheme adopted in peacetime. Shortly before her final voyage the Emden was repainted in the grey colour scheme common to operational warships.
As Order No. 2010.G the model is available in the grey operational colours of the Imperial Navy during her final voyage.
A top-class, high-quality model with superb detailing.
