WP DISCUS 2b Spannw.3340 mm Graupner 4533 The DISCUS 2 is Schempp-Hirths latest introduction to the standard-class sailplane market. The principal difference in the new DISCUS is the polyhedral (multiple dihedral) of the wing, which makes the DISCUS 2 easier to circle in thermals. Tilo Holighaus was at the controls of the DISCUS 2 on its first flight at the Hahnweide on 3 April 1998. Already the new DISCUS has rung up its first competition successes by winning the Hahnweide Cup and the German and English Championships. No doubt these will not be its last contest successes. In the model certain scale dimensions have been modified compared with the full-size machine in order to improve its flight performance. The kit is extensively pre-fabricated, and includes a GRP fuselage and rudder, and sandwich-construction wing and tailplane panels. As a result the DISCUS 2 can be completed quite quickly. The wings and tailplane are supplied in the kit ready-made but uncovered, i.e. with finished leading edges, integral airbrake boxes and machined wells in the wings for the wing-mounted servos. Of course, it is possible to install a retractable undercarriage and an aero-tow mechanism. Accurate pre-cut openings in the fuselage guarantee a perfect fit for the wing joiner components. The sleeves for the 10 mm Ø joiner rod are pre-installed in the wings. Building instructions in German, English and French.
