WP DIAMANTSpannweite ca.4500m Graupner 9450 The DIAMANT glider is a non-scale sailplane for the Large Glider class, developed in collaboration with Dr. Helmut Quabeck. At the design stage particular emphasis was placed on harmonious, well-balanced flying characteristics, but with due regard to good performance. The DIAMANT responds very well to thermals. The glider features camber-changing flaps, and using them correctlygives the machine a broad speed range. If the flaps are set to "negative", i.e. up, the model increases speed which can then be converted into altitude. Simple aerobatic manoeuvres are possible, and once again the camber-changing flaps can be very helpful in this mode of flying; for instance, the flaps could be set to "negative for a protracted period of inverted flying. On the landing approach the inboard flaps are deflected down, the outboardflaps up, as this provides effective braking combined with good control response, allowing the pilot to keep the model on course very effectively using the ailerons and rudder. The model is designed for the installation of a retractable wheel and an aero-tow mechanism. Installing a COMPACT 655 electric motor converts the DIAMANT into an electric glider; the kit includes a multi-part laser-cut jig which defines the correct angle and position for the cut-line whenremoving the fuselage nose. All the control surfaces on the wings and tailplane are attached using "elastic flap" (live) hinges, and the wings and tailplane are supplied film-covered in two colours. The canopy is already bonded to the canopy frame and trimmed accurately to fit the fuselage; all you have to do is paint the frame. The ready-made white pigmented epoxy fuselage features accurately cut holes for the wing joiner, and the tailplanesecuring nuts are factory-fitted. The tail post and the elevator servo plate are also factory-installed. The underside of the fuselage features marked lines for cutting out the wheel doors. Building instructions in German, English and French. Ready-made, white pigmented GRP fuselage and rudder, film-covered wings and tailplane of obechi-skinned high-density foam construction, bonded canopy frame / canopy, machined undercarriage bulkheads, 16 mm Ø wing joiner, decal sheet, small items, linkage hardware pack.
