The full-size
The prototype L-39 bearing the registration X-02 made its first flight in 1968. It was manufactured from 1972 onwards, and became the standard jet trainer for most of the Warsaw Pact airforces. Our model is based on "Pipsqueak" - the fastest L-39 flown in the Jet class at the National Air Races held in Reno, Nevada. In 2009 the "Pipsqueak" qualified with a speed of 525 mph.
The model
The finely detailed jet is assembled from moulded Styrofoam parts, and emulates the racing version with its distinctive bright red colour scheme. The major components are factory-painted, with all decals applied, making assembly very simple. The servos, fan unit with brushless outrunner motor and speed controller are already installed, ready for use. As a result this fast, dynamic jet can be ready for its maiden flight within a very short time.
